Compensation Overview

• Salary Range: $135,700 – $223,900 (nationwide market range)

• Actual salary depends on role scope, complexity, experience, skills, credentials, and location.

• Eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

The Opportunity

The Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI) Claim Counsel Team investigates, analyzes, and resolves complex claims to deliver superior results and service. As Claim Counsel within the Public Company & Transactional Liability Team, you will manage Directors & Officers Liability and Transactional Liability (including Representations & Warranties) claims, provide legal advice to internal partners, and contribute to strategic initiatives across BSI.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims of varying severity with limited supervision.

• Draft coverage opinions and provide legal guidance on policy interpretation.

• Prepare reports on financial exposure, reserve adjustments, coverage issues, and recovery strategies.

• Retain, manage, and monitor outside counsel; actively use litigation management plans and budgets.

• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, depositions, trials, and claim meetings.

• Negotiate settlements, review releases, and draft agreements with confidentiality and non-disclosure terms.

• Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate with Recovery Management Unit.

• Support underwriting and marketing initiatives, including client meetings, risk seminars, and authoring white papers.

• Research legal developments, draft reference materials, and monitor market conditions.

• Maintain required adjusters' licenses.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in relevant jurisdiction(s).

• Minimum 3 years of legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant legal or claim handling experience.

• Experience handling Public Company D&O or Representations & Warranties claims.

• Strong legal acumen and decision-making skills.

• Proven ability to negotiate within authority limits.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, including clear articulation of coverage decisions.

• Time management skills with ability to balance multiple priorities.

• Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across teams and with clients.
