The Opportunity

As a Liability Trial Attorney, you will represent Travelers' insureds in liability litigation, handling cases of moderate to high complexity from inception through resolution. This is a hands-on litigation role requiring strong advocacy skills, case strategy development, and a commitment to delivering outstanding legal service and results.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of liability matters, including personal injury, property damage, and general liability defense.

• Handle all phases of litigation including investigation, discovery, motion practice, depositions, mediations, arbitration, and trial.

• Serve as lead trial counsel in jury and bench trials.

• Draft and argue motions, pleadings, and legal briefs.

• Provide timely and accurate reports and case assessments to clients and Claim partners.

• Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations with a focus on cost-effective resolution.

• Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring superior communication and customer service.

• Utilize litigation technology and adhere to best practices in file and case management.

• Travel as necessary for court appearances, depositions, and trials.

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

• Active license in good standing to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction(s).

• Minimum 3–5 years of litigation experience with trial exposure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in liability defense, personal injury, or insurance defense litigation.

• Strong advocacy, research, and writing skills.

• Proven ability to manage cases independently while collaborating with Claim partners.

• Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, adaptable to different audiences.

• Client-focused with a demonstrated commitment to delivering superior results.
